“‘Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, and this temple to lie in ruins?’ Now therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘Consider your ways!'” Haggai 1:4-5
We no longer have a temple to take care of to worship God. We do, of course, have the local church buildings to keep in proper order. However, I believe this verse can be applied to more than just the physical building.
In this verse, God is describing a people more concerned about their physical comfort and enjoyment than they are with God and His will. They were willing to let God’s temple lie in ruins while they lived a life of ease. And so, the question is…in what ways do I choose a life of ease and enjoyment instead of seeking God’s best for my life?
Do I spend too much time on the computer neglecting my family?
Am I hard hearted towards the struggles my fellow christians are going through?
Is attending a church service once a week a high priority for our family?
Perhaps we’re involved in a lot of outside activities. Perhaps we find an “escape” in the online world. Perhaps we don’t look for ways to minister to other chrisitans. The way each christian chooses comfort over God can be different. However, sin’s nature dictates that we naturally choose what is easiest and most comfortable for us.
So…how can you choose to leave a life of pleasure today and choose God’s best for you and your family?
