Book Review: The Duggars: 20 and Counting!

Being fascinated by the Duggar family, I was excited to purchase their book “The Duggars: 20 and Counting!”. The primary purpose of this book is to demonstrate what life is like in a big family and provide testimonies to the sufficiency of God’s grace.

Of course, one of the primary reasons for reading this book is to get a glimpse into what life is like when you have eighteen children! Mr. and Mrs. Duggar certainly paint quite a picture. They describe the challenges of living in a home with only one washer and dryer…as they did for a brief period of time when their family was smaller. They are honest about the potential chaos of having a large family…and also about what they have done to keep that chaos at bay. Through it all, Mr. and Mrs. Duggar unashamedly share their faith and the practical ways they teach their children godly character.

After reading this book and thinking about is messages, I was struck by the Duggar’s desire to honor God in practical ways. For them, there is no divide between their spiritual lives and their every day lives. Their relationships with Jesus Christ affects every area of their lives…just as it should be.
